Access Statement
The Cottage Hotel has been built on the side of the cliff overlooking Hope Cove. Over time, it has evolved and now presents 35 bedrooms. The Building is built on a slight incline and whilst the majority of public rooms are on the level, there are occasional steps to access the entrance, public washrooms and bedrooms. We do have portable ramps which we will gladly arrange to assist where we can.
Although the Cottage Hotel was not specifically designed for disabled guests, we will endeavour to assist in any way possible to help our guests feel happy and comfortable in the given environment. There are procedures in place to ensure our guests' stay is a more enjoyable experience. Future plans will make the hotel more user friendly.
We respectfully invite you to contact us to explain your needs so that we can understand them and then explain how and if we can meet these, helping you plan your stay. We will try to find you the most appropriate room to meet these needs and (on request) arrange the free loan of items we have available. Saving you transport of bulky equipment.
Facilities
Regrettably, we do not have dedicated disabled facilities within the hotel. We do have the following items of equipment that can be used, when requested and where appropriate. These are all subject to availability;
Portable Ramps
Wheel chair (Indoor use)
Raised toilet seat
Suction grip hand rails / suction bath matts
Deaf Aid (vibrating pillow for fire awareness)
Hearing loop (at Reception)
Ambulant disabilities
The geography of the building is more suited to people with only ambulant disabilities, we do not have a lift at the hotel and access to toilets and ground floor rooms could prove difficult for people with more severe disabilities.
The ladies cloakroom has one small step up and the cosy ground floor Gentlemans W.C has three steps down. At present, we do not have a disabled bathroom.
Ramps
We have a portable ramp to overcome the two steps up to the main entrance.
There are three steps leading from the restaurant to the lower ground floor rooms, there are a further two steps down to the new wing where the Premier Bedrooms are located. Hand rails are present.
To gain access to the ground floor rooms requires negotiating three steps, which are too deep for the use of a ramp. This may present a challenge for wheelchair users.
Our restaurant is situated conveniently on the ground floor and is easily accessible, however please be mindful that the door to the restaurant is 695mm wide and may therefore be difficult for larger electric wheelchairs to access. We have a small wheelchair on site to counteract any challenges.
Disabled car spaces
Our car park is split over three levels as the Hotel is built on the cliffside overlooking Hope Cove.
There is a disabled car space adjacent to the main entrance on our lower car park. We can offer to reserve car park spaces for people with disabilities but have to be strict due to limited availability of spaces. (We will always try to reserve a space for Blue Badge holders but remind guests that our parking facilities adjacent to the Reception are limited in number. If spaces are not available, we suggest dropping guests at the front door then parking the car elsewhere on another level).
Accommodation
The Cottage Hotel is best described as quirky and old fashioned. Bedrooms vary in terms of shape and size and location. However, many will be suitable for guests with minor disabilities so do please feel free to call us and let our Reception team assist you.
