History:

Malborough is a small village in the South Hams. The old word mal meant a meeting place. Malborough's All Saints Church is a large ancient structure with a tower and six bells, and has a spire which can be seen from a great distance. It is known, locally, as the 'Cathedral of the South Hams'.

The old parish of Malborough was a major settlement, with a small port on the Kingsbridge Estuary at Salcombe. The port grew into the now well-known town and holiday resort, leaving Malborough as just a small village on the road between Salcombe and Kingsbridge.

There is a village hall, which is the largest in the district and much activity goes on during the year including a Christmas Pantomime, two Summer Horticultural Shows and a Bowling Club etc. Salcombe Flower Club also meets there once a month. Free parking is available.

Places to visit:

The village boasts two inns and a post office. Located at the garage is a small supermarket and tucked away are some picturesque cottages which are worth discovering.

Nearby at Soar Mill there are, still existing, the remains of World War II bunkers and an aerodrome.

Following in the steps of our forefathers, you could take a walk to two exciting sites: Bolt Tail and Burleigh Dolts. These sites date back to the Iron Age.
